Residential home for rescued girls
Residential home for rescued girls
Ortum Girls Primary takes in girls rescued from such marriages by local organisations and protects them on their school premises. There are currently 30 girls in their care. To further help the girls, the school tried to build a dormitory for them in 2017, but ran out of funds. The roof has not been tiled until today and the building is still not completed. After meeting the girls and hearing some of their sad stories, we are convinced that it is only right to help the school finish this house. The girls cannot go home during the school holidays and need a place where they can feel safe and secure so that they can also concentrate at school.
We want to help Ortum Girls Primary School to finish this dormitory. They take in girls rescued from forced marriage and circumcision and offer them shelter. They started building it in 2017 but ran out of funds. It will be a safe place for the girls to stay, even during school holidays. Going back home is too risky for them.
