Water supply – A well improves life
Clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene practices are critical to the health and education of school children.
School children, especially girls, spend many hours a day fetching water from streams or ponds for their daily needs in their neighborhood. Often this water is questionable and contains a variety of pathogens.
Still, it is worth noting that the water table is very high in some of the most affected schools. This means that water is easily accessible within 30 m – 80 m below the ground surface. School sanitation facilities can easily have a reliable source of water, which benefits children’s health in the long run.
Our solution is to have wells drilled in the immediate vicinity of the school. This is done manually by the local experts. In some regions, water drilling machines are required. These are safer, but too costly. Manually drilled wells unfortunately do not provide enough water and tend to dry up during the hot months.
With the help of a solar or electric water pump, the water is stored in water towers. From there, it is piped to the toilet facilities.
Cost: € 5000 – € 7000 / well
